Math Semester Exam Work Group Meeting Summaries Meeting # 6―October 30, 2013 Work group members looked at the relationship between quarter marks and semester exam grades. Findings indicate that these relationships differ for different courses and different levels of courses. Course grades for Algebra 1 students are more consistent with exam failure than for other courses. Next, the work group reviewed and provided feedback on a draft survey for secondary mathematics teachers. The survey will be sent out the first week in November with a week-long window for participation. Teachers will be asked to complete the survey for each of the math courses they taught last year. The final activity for the meeting was to hear about the process the mathematics instructional staff uses to elicit feedback on semester exams from teachers and to review feedback received last year on Semester A exams. Work group was pleased to learn that such a process existed, but were concerned that so few responses had been received. The work group suggested that the feedback be shared with all resource teachers to encourage greater participation by teachers.
