Meeting Summary

Meeting # 3―September 16, 2013
The meeting began with a review of the prioritized issues/implication seen as impacting semester exam
performance generated at the first meeting―alignment among curriculum, exams, and instruction;
student placement, readiness, and options; purpose and weight of semester exam; performance on
formative assessments; and maximize instructional time. Work group members will address each of
these issues and generate implications for recommendations. This will allow the work group to review
and revise recommendations as they conduct their work.
Participants reviewed, clarified, deleted, and/or added to the implications for recommendations
regarding exam and curriculum alignment and instruction that had been generated at the previous
meeting. Following this process, work group members prioritized the implications for recommendations.
These draft recommendations will be reviewed as the work group addresses the other issues/interests
seen as impacting exam performance and finalized in the work group report.
The second agenda item was to elaborate on what was meant by “maximize instructional time,” another
of the prioritized issues/interests identified at the first meeting. This information was collected and will
be brought to next meeting for review, clarification, additions, and/or deletions. As with alignment and
instruction, implications for recommendations will be generated by the work group.
