TheOfficeofStudentSuccessexiststosupportstudentsastheyworktofulfill
their individual, academic and professional potential by providing
developmentally appropriate resources. Through collaboration with faculty,
staffandalumni,weworktocreateasupportiveandchallengingenvironment
wherestudentscandeveloptheconfidence,competenceandresponsibilityto
achievetheirgoals.
StudentSuccessprovidesthreeareasofessentialservicesoncampusincluding
Academic Services, Disability Services and Career Services. Student Success is
located in the Student Services building between the Wallace Student Center
andCarterGym.
AcademicServices
Student Success helps students demonstrate their active participation in the
learning process through appropriate help-seeking behaviors, commitment to
meetingrigorousstandards,andacademicskilldevelopment.Allstudentsare
encouraged to take advantage of services in order to achieve their best
possibleacademicperformance.
• CUTutoringCenter
Studentscandropinorscheduleanappointmenttoworkone-on-oneorin
smallgroupswithatutorforassistancewithmanycourses.Tutoring
schedulesarepostedonthewebsiteeachsemester.
• PeerTutoring
IfastudentneedsassistancewithacoursethatisnotofferedintheCU
TutoringCenter,theymayrequestatutortomeetwithindividually.The
requestformislocatedonline.(Seelinkbelow.)
• CUWritingCenter
Studentsmaybringanypaperforanycourseandatrainedwritingcoach
willreviewtheirworkandoffersuggestionsandassistancetoimprovethe
paper.
• GroupReviewSessions
Many course instructors will arrange for review sessions to cover course
material, or to prepare for an exam. Times and locations will be
announcedinclass.
• SupplementalInstruction(SI)
SI is a program featuring peer- led collaborative study sessions and is
offered for some of Campbell’s most challenging classes. Times and
locationsofSIsessionswillbeannouncedinclass.

Academiccoacheshelpstudentsgaininsightneededtoaffirmandimprove
academic strengths and weaknesses in areas such as study skills, note

Documentation
To ensure that reasonable and appropriate services and accommodations are
provided to students with disabilities, students requesting such
accommodations and services must provide current documentation of their
disability. Such documentation generally must include all the following and
more specific information is available from the Director of Access and
Outreach:

a clear diagnostic statement of the disability prepared by a licensed
professional
•
adescriptionofthemannerinwhichthedisabilitylimitsthestudentina
specifiedmajorlifeactivity,andtheseverityofthelimitation.
Accommodations
Campbell University will make every effort to provide reasonable
accommodations appropriate for the documented needs of the
student. Among these are extended time for tests/examinations, certain
course substitutions, preferential seating in class, note-takers, peer tutors,
isolated/separateroomtesting,oraltesting,permissiontorecordlectures,and
alternateformattextbooks.Studentsrequestingaccommodationofdisabilities
are asked to contact and present current documentation to the Director of
Access and Outreach in person, or by phone at (910) 814-4634. Appropriate
accommodationswillbemadeknowntothosefacultymembersdesignatedby
thestudent.Additionaland/ormorecurrentinformationmayberequested.
Please note that in the interest of privacy, the student must request each
semesterthatinformationconcerninghis/heraccommodationsbeprovidedto
specific members of the faculty. Faculty members not designated by the
studentwillnotbeinformed.
Grievances
Studentswhofeelthatreasonableaccommodationhasnotbeenmadefortheir
disabilities should address their grievances to the Dean of Students in

writing. The Dean will arrange meetings and hearings with concerned parties
as necessary to resolve the issue. If the matter cannot be satisfactorily
resolvedinthismanner,itwillbereferredtotheVicePresidentforStudentLife
ortheProvostasappropriate.

CareerServices
Career Services seeks to assist students in understanding the essential skills
neededtosuccessfullynavigatethejobmarketandtoprogressintheirchosen
profession. Campbell University is a member of state, regional and national
careerservicesassociations,andourstaffoperatesunderNACEGuidelinesfor
ProfessionalStandards.
Career Services provides tools for the examination of career-related interests
and individual strengths and values. Students uncertain about their major or
exploringtheiracademicandcareeroptionsmaymakeanappointmenttotake
avarietyofassessmentsusingTypeFocus.Thistest,inadditiontoone-on-one
discussionswithCareerServicesstaffcanbeatoolindeterminingappropriate
careerandacademicpaths.

Career Services regularly hosts workshops and programs related to career
readiness, such as résumé preparation, interview skills and exploring career
andcalling.Inaddition,studentsareencouragedtoattendeventssuchasthe
Spring Career and Professional Fair beginning their first year on campus in
ordertostartresearchinginternshipandemploymentopportunities.Students
should also take advantage of services such as mock interviews and résumé
reviewstohelpgivethemacompetitiveedgeintheworkforce.

CounselingServices
Counseling Services is located on Pope Street behind Moe’s Southwest Grill,
and is staffed by one full-time mental health professional (Director of

Counseling Services), a part-time mental health professional (Assistant
Director), and a Graduate Assistant. Students are seen by appointment, and
appointments are scheduled by Counseling Services’ Graduate Assistant at
extension5709.
Undergraduate students (who are enrolled currently for full-time hours) are
eligible for services. Graduate and professional students are not eligible for
services in our office, but are served by Dr. Dan Marlowe, Director of
Behavioral Health for the School of Osteopathic Medicine. Graduate and
professional students interested in scheduling an appointment with Dr.

Personal counseling can include assisting you in clarifying goals and finding
solutions to problems through careful listening, guiding self-exploration, and
suggesting new perspectives for consideration. The focus of Counseling
Servicesistoprovidestudentswithshort-termcounselingandmanystudents’
concernsandproblemscanbeaddressedinfourtosixsessions.Servicesare
provided free of charge. If a student is in need of more intensive treatment,
he/she will be referred out to a local private provider (at the student’s
expense).
Counseling Servicessubscribes to the Ethical Standards of our mental health
licensureorganizations(i.e.,AmericanPsychologicalAssociation,theAmerican
CounselingAssociation),aswellastheprofessionallawsoftheStateofNorth
Carolina. Adherence to these standards ensures the confidentiality of all
counselingand assessment services. Information that you share with
Counseling Services staff and your therapist’s record of her work with you is
confidential.TheserecordsbelongtoCounselingServicesandareNOTpartof
your academic records. This means that the information will not be shared
withyourfamily,UniversityPersonnel,students,orothersunless:(1)yougive
prior written authorization, (2) if, in your counselor’s opinion, you are a clear
dangertoselforothers,(3)NorthCarolinalawrequires,asinthecaseofthe
presence of child or elderly abuse, or (4) court-ordered disclosures. In such
cases,theCounseloractsonbehalfofthestudentconsistentwithsafetyneeds
andStatelaws.AstudentmaywanttheirCounselortospeakwithaprofessor,
other university official, family member, or someone else. This is gladly done
withthatstudent'swrittenconsent.
Students may elect to pursue Pastoral Counseling from the Campus Minister,
whose office is located on the second floor of the Wallace Student

Sexual Harassment, Sexual Exploitation, Non-Consensual Sexual Acts, and
Sexual Misconduct: Please note Counseling Services and Campus Ministry are
campus offices through whom members of the campus community may seek
confidential guidance and support. These resources may be consulted at any
time in the process, including prior to making an official report. Because
contentofdiscussionswithconfidentialresourcesisnotreportedtoanofficeof
record,suchdiscussionsdonotserveasnoticetotheUniversitytoaddressthe
allegeddiscriminationorharassment.Thatis,CounselingServicesandCampus
Ministry offices are exempt from mandated reporting of sexual harassment,
