o MOSS = high-end, complete portal
o SP is a “Swiss army knife”: individual features are not as rich as other services; what is
there works, but not individually great for wikis, blogs, etc. Google docs better than SP
document feature might be a good idea
o Sites:
o Association of the US Army
o Swatch
o Invu
o Clearspace
o Benefits
o Integration of Web 2.0
o Reduction of email attachment glut
o Removes webmaster bottlenecks
o Facilitates collaboration
o Increases communication
o Returns power over content to content owners
o San Jose decided not all content merits a SP site
o Not easy to migrate to SP
o Piloted small sites
o Those that are worthy:
 Need frequent updating
 Need group collaboration
 Other specialized information sharing
Social Media and Networked Technologies (Keynote, danah boyd)

Three places where intervention is needed:

She says: My research focuses on how people negotiate a presentation of self to unknown
audiences in mediated contexts. In particular, my dissertation examines how American
teenagers socialize in networked publics like MySpace, Facebook, LiveJournal, Xanga and
YouTube. I am interested in how the architectural differences between unmediated and
mediated publics affect sociality, identity and culture. My undergrad thesis focused on how
prioritization of depth cues is dependent on levels of sex hormones in the body and how this
affects engagement with virtual reality.

identity authenticated by lib. card or is there a whole different identity?
o Evolution heading toward fully collaborative model, “organized fabric of
interrelated web services”

modules and become fulfillment-oriented

o It isn’t the USER’s problem where a book is or how it gets to them, it is a
FULFILLLMENT issue
