Dear Marching Band Enthusiast,
Act now! – Join the Marching Band at Quince Orchard High School! We invite you to be a
part of our exciting 2016 season … NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY! The QO Marching Band
is looking forward to a very successful season with tentative performances at the U.S. Naval
Academy in Annapolis and at the Johnny Unitas Stadium at Towson University, among
others.
At this time, you need to reserve your spot for the 2016 Marching Cougars. This year
marching band registration can be completed one of two ways. You may elect to use the
attached registration paper form (page 2) or you may use the preferred electronic form
that can be found on our website (see page 3). A $200 deposit is required to guarantee
your spot in the 2016 Marching Cougars and help ensure that our drill will be written prior
to band camp. Drill is written based upon the number of students that have turned in
deposits. Your deposit will be deducted from the full band fee of $500 that will be collected
in two additional payments.
Please complete the electronic or paper registration form and mail it (along with your
deposit) to Mr. Fay by Friday, May 6th. Make checks payable to QOHS.

Enclosed in this packet you will find important information regarding the upcoming
season. Please plan to attend all band camp rehearsals. Attendance is mandatory. This is
required for us to remain a competitive marching band. You will find a brief description of
the season’s rehearsal and performance schedules. A final performance schedule will be
confirmed in May and a final rehearsal schedule will be set in early August – after fall
sports are scheduled.
It’s an exciting time to be a part of our marching band program. I do hope you will consider

Fee Collection Schedule
The total fee for the 2016 Season is $500. This fee supports our operating budget and pays
for competition fees, transportation, professional drill design/music arrangements,
uniform cleaning/alterations, instructional staff as well as numerous other operating
expenses. Drill is written based upon the number of students that have turned in deposits.
The initial deposit of $200 goes directly to the arranger/drill writers and thus cannot be
refunded if a student elects to drop out. Our drill writers will charge a hefty fee to reorganize
drill for students that have dropped out. The remaining fee is payable in two payments in
June and August.
*** Money should NEVER be a reason to not join marching band. If there is a financial
situation, or if you need to discuss other payment options, or if you have any

Band Camp
Band camp will occur in mid-August and is MANDATORY for all members. This time is crucial as it
allows the band to learn pre-game, football music, and the halftime show. Dates and times are listed
below:
Wednesday thru Friday 8/10-12 10am-4pm: Guard & Percussion (new and returning members)
In addition:
Thursday 8/11 – 10 am - 2 pm - Student Leadership Day (student leaders only)
Friday 8/12 – 10 am - 12 pm - New Member Day- 10am-12pm
FULL BAND CAMP BEGINS (all members must be present)

Rehearsal Schedule
Marching Band rehearsals will be after school and mandatory. Days and times of our rehearsals
will not be finalized until the fall sports schedule is set in early August. Most weeks, the marching
band rehearses two days per week (unlike sports that practice every day after school). Rehearsal
times will typically be 3:00 - 5:30 pm. We are projecting rehearsals to be on Tuesdays and
Thursdays with some exceptions due to holidays and field usage. Rehearsals will also take place on
Saturday mornings of Competition days.
Performances
Performances are mandatory. The QO Marching Band performs at all Home Varsity Football games
(Friday nights). Game time is usually 6:30pm with students reporting at 5:00pm. Our marching
band also will be competing in several competitions this season. These competitions are usually on
Saturday afternoons or evenings. In past seasons, the marching band has performed at great
venues such as Raven’s Stadium, the US Naval Academy, Towson and Disney World.
The QO Pep Band is a smaller group of marching band members that attend varsity football away
games. This is a volunteer (optional) group. Students can choose to go to all away games, only a
few or none. Students will sign up in sections on the Tuesday before the away game- first come,
first served.

band parents. This allows us to send a text to your cell phone in case of an urgent message
from the band, such as delays in returning from competitions, away games… This is an opt-in
program.

We do not have access to your cell phone number. You won’t be able to respond through this
program. This will not replace our emails through the Yahoo group.
