From: Jeffrey L Carson, M.D., Provost, RBHS—New Brunswick

Subject: Faculty Title or Track Selection for Non-tenured Faculty in the AAUP-BHSNJ Unit
In accordance with the Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences Policies and Guidelines
Governing Appointments, Promotions, and Professional Activities of the Faculty, all non-tenured
RBHS faculty in the AAUP-BHSNJ negotiations units (those holding a 0.5 or greater FTE) must
affirm in writing, prior to June 30, 2016, the track in which they want to remain or the track in which
they want to transfer. Please find attached the form to be used for this purpose.
The following process shall be followed with respect to faculty title or track selection for all nontenured faculty: The Chair or Chair’s designee shall meet face-to-face with each faculty member.
Together they will discuss and select the track, including the pathway within the track, if
applicable, which is most appropriate for the faculty member’s career success, also taking into
account the needs of the department and the availability of funding. Faculty members selecting
the RBHS Lecturer or RBHS Instructor faculty title must also meet with his/her chair or designee.
The attached form must completed and signed by the faculty member, the Chair, and the Dean, in
acknowledgment of approval, for all non-tenure track selections. For tenure-track selections, the
appropriate Provost and the Chancellor must also sign the form. In order for this process to be
completed for all non-tenured faculty by June 30, 2016, we recommend that the meetings with
faculty begin as soon as possible and the faculty selection form be completed by May 1, 2016.
Upon selection/approval of the faculty title or track, each faculty member will be provided with a
letter outlining the track descriptions, guidelines for promotion or tenure, if applicable, the faculty
member’s responsibilities and the responsibilities and commitment of the institution. This letter is
to be signed by the Chair, Dean, and the faculty member prior to the transfer. It is required that a
copy of this letter also be sent to the AAUP-BHSNJ. We will be distributing templates to guide you
in the construction of these letters in the near future. Please schedule your meetings with the
faculty in advance of your receipt of these templates.
Please scan and send the completed forms via email to Karen Muller, Director, RBHS Faculty
Affairs, at [email protected].
If you have any questions on this process, please feel free to contact us via email at
[email protected], or [email protected].
Thank you in advance for your attention to this important matter, and for all you do for RBHS.
