March Newsletter 2016
Language Arts
This month our students will be looking at a
variety of informational
texts to examine multiple
accounts of events to
identify key ideas and
details. Students will
identify
chronology
text structures
(sequence).
We will also
be comparing and contrasting different points
of view on the same topic. Students will also be
analyzing how visual and
multimedia elements contribute to the meaning,
tone and beauty of a
graphic novel..
Students will be completing a poetry analysis
by incorporating the figurative language being
used in the poem and
imagery to poet portrays.
Math
We will continue to multiply fractions using the
Decomposing Method
and FOIL method. Students will be able to explain the relationship between multiplication and
division with unit frac-
tions to interpret models.
We will also solve problems involving division of
whole numbers that will
lead to answers in the
form of a fraction.
Science
We are continuing our
unit on astronomy. Students will discuss their
observations of the moon
and elaborate on the patterns of the moon and
stars in the night sky.
Students will identify the
characteristics of planet
Earth that sustains life as
we know it. Then students will compare Earth
to another planet in our
solar system. Based on
their research students
will determine if any other planet can sustain life.
National Road, the C&O
Canal, B&O Railroad, and
the Steamboat. Students
will explain how these
changes lead to growth
and development of towns
and cities.
Students are working on the
following Thinking and Academic Success Skilss (TASS):
Elaboration– adding details
that expand, enrich, or embellish.
Intellectual Risk Taking– accepting uncertainty or challenging the norm to read a
goal. The majority of this
grade is taken from student
participation in class.

Social Studies
We are continuing to

changes that

United
States in the 18th and
19th centuries. The students will describe the
importance of changes in
transportation such as the
