A Look Ahead to What We Will Be Doing in 2nd Grade in May…
Reading
o Informational Text: ask and answer questions, meaning of
words and phrases, clarifying images, text features,
connection between historical events/series of scientific
ideas, main topic, author’s reasons, and texts main purpose.
o Vocabulary: ask and answer questions of a speaker,
references, and recount key details.
Math
Writing
o Informative Text: introduce a topic, use facts to develop
points, recall experiences, focus on a topic, gather
information to answer a question,
o Language: spelling patterns, apostrophe’s, irregular plural
nouns, and expand and rearrange sentences.
Social Studies & Science
o Subtraction within 1000 (3-digit from 3-digit), decomposing a
ten or hundred, using concrete models, drawings, written
methods, subtraction of a 3-digit from number a 3-digit
number with and without a zero in the tens place.
o Attributes of Shapes: recognize, describe, and draw
triangles, quadrilaterals, pentagons, and hexagons.

o Information about the past from informational texts and
biographies, American leaders, innovators, heroes, and
Democratic beliefs and attitudes represented by the
contributions of people recognized by holidays.
Science:
o Comparisons of plant & animal basic needs, life cycles,
and moon descriptions.
