A Look Ahead to What We Will Be Doing in February in 2nd Grade… Writing Reading o Informational Text: Ask and answer questions, identify the meaning of words and phrases, compare texts, identify author’s reasons, series of ideas or concepts, determine the main purpose, and clarifying images. o Vocabulary: Glossaries, context clues, adjectives and adverbs. o Opinion: ideas, development, organization, and fluency: o Introduce a topic, state and opinion, supply reasons that support the opinion, use linking words to connect opinion and reasons, and provide a conclusion statement. Language: Collective nouns, irregular plural nouns, produce, complete, expand and rearrange simple and compound sentences, formal/informal English usage. Math o Number lines to 100, whole number lengths, linear measurement units: centimeters and meters (concrete models)-relationship between size of unit and iterations, mental strategies: addition and subtraction within 20, inches and feet, addition and subtraction situations (within 100), same length units, linear measurement tools (rulers, yardsticks, meter sticks), and measurement and data: line plots. Social Studies and Science Social Studies: o Technology affects daily life, transportation past and present, and production process: natural, capital , and human resources.
