What will First Graders be learning in September?
Reading/Language Arts
Students will:
 Retell stories, including key details.
 Describe characters, setting, and major events in a
story using key details.
 Listen for the short vowel sounds for a,e,i,o, and u
and correctly identify words that do or do not
contain them.
Math
Students will:
 Count by 1s and 10s to 120 (including one more and one
less).
 Read and write numerals to 120.
 Understand that the 2 digits of a 2-digit number represent
amounts of tens and ones.
 Compare 2-digit numbers based on the meanings of the
tens and ones digits and use >,>, or = to record the
comparisons.
 Given a 2-digit number, mentally find 10 more or 10 less
than the number, without having to count, explain the
reasoning used.
Writing
Students will:
 Create a topic list and choose a topic to write a
narrative, including 2 or more sequenced events.
Social Studies and Science
 In Social Studies, students will be learning about
Good Citizenship (rules, laws and individual
responsibilities at school, home and in the
community.)
 In Science, students will study the basic needs of
plants and animals in our environment.

 Homework will begin the week of September
28th.
It will be sent home every Monday, and should be
returned the following Monday.

Ruiz: tissues, clorox/lysol wipes and gallon sized Ziplock bags,
headphones
Rakow: Clorox wipes, tissues, & baby wipes
Taylor: Nothing at this time
