Join Montgomery County Mathematics
and McGraw-Hill Education for an afternoon of
Professional Development
featuring David Schwartz.
Literature can encourage children to wonder about their world.
When they read David’s many mathematical books—including
such well-known titles as How Much Is a Million?, If You Hopped
Like a Frog and G Is for Googol—they can be inspired not only
to ask questions but to find answers. For 20 years, David has
been collecting student projects based on his books, especially
mathematical investigations children have undertaken to extend,
confirm and even dispute what he has written. By delving beyond
the printed word, children hone their skills in critical thinking,
problem solving and basic computation with a sense of purpose
and satisfaction. David will show educators how they can encourage students to read critically
and inquire mathematically, with results that are consistently impressive, sometimes surprising,
often hilarious and always educational.
