High School for Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice SDMC Meeting Agenda 9-14-15 Minutes Taken by: Ms. Shafer Members Present: Mrs. Mosteit, M. Silva, Ms. Shafer, Ms. Alexander, Mr. Estrella, Mrs. Brownlee, Mrs. Bush, Mr. Davis Meeting Start Time: 3:30p.m. Meeting End Time: 4:06p.m. Members fought over who did not want to be secretary Ms. Shafer volunteered Mrs. Mosteit went over guide lines of the SDMC Agenda items must be approved one week in advanced One it’s on the agenda, the SDMC members discuss it then vote on it. Mrs. Mosteit has final decision on vote rulings Overview of agenda items: Budget- 411 enrollment, estimation was 438 students. Budget is decided upon enrollment 27 students short which equals $97,200 $42,000 in supplies $44,000 magnet money, part will go back CTE $48,000 money goes back Still have sub money, copy money, etc. No big purchase items District no longer supporting desktop computers in computer rooms Each department will find out budget in November Oct. 29th is the snapshot of enrollment Discuss budget more at November SDMC meetings with the final numbers Phones at lunch- Ms. Alexander explained that the students mainly use them for texting and social media. Mrs. Mosteit said they did a trial run before with jeans and the students lost the privilege. Ms. Alexander said a trial run with cell phones at lunch would be good. Brownlee expressed concerns with phones spreading from lunch into the hallways. Mr. Estrella made a motion to allow cell phones at lunch for a trial period Mrs. Bush second the motion Mrs. Brownlee said nay Majority in favor – so cell phones at lunch passes Shorts- Dickie style shorts, one inch above a knee, in khaki, grey, black, or white. Boys are asking for shorts. Mr. Estrella pointed out that they are cooler for larger students. Many teachers expressed opposition because of the risk with students wearing inappropriate shorts. Mr. Davis pointed out that it is subjective as what is appropriate. Alexander suggested tableaux the shorts discussion for the spring. Mrs. Mosteit said when we move into the new school, we’ll redo the whole uniform. Shorts- tableaux until the spring Skirt Length- handbook says dress code says “tea-length.” Mrs. Mosteit would like to change the length to 1 inch above the knee. Ms. Shafer suggested at the knee instead because it’s longer and easier to measure. Change in the policy for next year. Mrs. Mosteit wants teachers to use common sense. We would not advertise that knee length skirts are acceptable, we will just tell the teachers. Mrs. Alexander motions to change the skirt Mrs. Brownlee seconded it Majority votes to allow knee length skirts without announcing it to students Friday College Shirt Parent wants their child to be able to wear college t-shirt on Friday with college logo. Ms. Silva said she likes that idea. Ms. Silva- motions to allow students to wear college shirts on Fridays Mr. Estrella- seconded motion Majority agrees New School Dress Code Committee New dress code Academic outfitters to help us design what we want Differentiating grade by colors? Open up, fresh start. What do we want the students to look like in the new school?
