WINDOWS 3.1
Microsoft Windows is a program that provides the environment in which
you work with your computer. It helps you organized your work and keep
track of information such as names and addresses, as well as create
documents such as letters and reports. Windows provides several tools,
including a word processor, calendar, and calculator that allow you to
complete any number of tasks. In addition, Windows allows you to use
other types of applications such as spreadsheets and database programs.
Objective: The purpose of this learning activity is to help students
develop the skills necessary to work in the Windows graphical
environment.
Learning Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Access)
Microsoft Office combines Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Mail, five
popular software packages into one office suite. Each of these tools can be
used separately, or they can be used together to produce professionallooking documents.
Objective: Learning Microsoft Office will teach the student to use four
tools in the Microsoft Office Suite on an IBM or PC compatible
computer. In addition, the student will learn to integrate
applications from one tool into another.
Computer Calculator
The Computer Calculator is an easy-to-use software program that
emulates the calculator. The input appears as if on a calculator tape.
This tape may be printed, saved, or recalled to print or used at a later
time. A special feature is a timer that allows the user to record the
progress in speed using the touch method.
Objective: The Computer Calculator program will train the user to
become proficient in operating the 10-key pad by touch and to
use it to the fullest. The program teaches basic math
operation of addition, percents, add-on and discount
capabilities, markup, and markdowns.
Computerized Timed Writings
The Skill Measurement Timings software provides unlimited opportunity
for practice; administers and scores all Skill Measurement and test
timings; scores the timings and highlights errors; reports speed and
accuracy scores; and maintains complete records.
Introduction to Accounting
Students will be introduced to or review accounting principles.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
To ensure an effective learning environment for the Office Education
Cooperative student, the following policies and procedures must be
followed. These rules must be read and signed by the student, parent,
employer, and school official to show that each has received a copy.
1.
Each student in the program, who accepts a position at an approved
training station, agrees to remain in that position until the end of
that school year. Cooperative education is a full year program and a
student must be enrolled the entire school year to receive three (3)
credits. Students who feel that co-op will interfere with their studies
or school activities need to drop the class during the first two weeks
of school. (JROTC, National Honor Society, Cheerleading, Student
Council and Clubs).
2.
Students are expected to keep a record and copies of excuses (notes)
for each nine-week grading period. A student may not have more
than one unexcused absence or not more than three total absences
for a nine-week grading period. Excessive absences must be
appealed through the attendance committee.
a.
Excessive absences from school or work are grounds for
dismissal from the program. The student will be placed on
probation after three consecutive absences. On the second
offense, the student may be dropped from the program, except
in cases of illness of self or family members or death in the
family.
b.
Students will not go to work on the same day they have been
absent from school. No excuses will be accepted. If you have
to make a doctor’s appointment, schedule it for the afternoon.
You are not to miss school to go to the doctor.
c.
If for any reason the student will miss school, be late for
class or late to work, he or she must notify Mrs. Bovell –
(713) 867-5112, no later than 9 a.m. of that same
morning.
DO NOT CALL THE ATTENDANCE CLERK TO REPORT YOUR
ABSENCES FROM OUR PROGRAM. THE ATTENDANCE CLERK
TAKES CARE OF SCHOOL ABSENCES ONLY.
POLICIES AND PROCEDURES (CONT.)
If you are in violation of this absence policy 3 times you will be terminated
from this program. If you are absent from school for any reason, you will
be responsible for obtaining information regarding a missed assignment
from another class member. This includes the assignment of a test to be
taken on the day following your absence.
3.
All Students MUST BE EMPLOYED at a qualified training station
three weeks (15 school days) after entering the OE Cooperative class.
If you are unemployed after the first three weeks of school, you must
be enrolled into regular classes.
4.
The student trainee should inform his/her coordinator of any
problems at work or at school, which might affect the student’s job
performance. This will enable the coordinator to assist in correction
of the problem without any interruption in the student’s efficiency or
routine.
5.
Students are responsible for their transportation to and from
their job. Mrs. Bovell is not responsible for transporting
students to and from the job site. All traffic regulation will be
honored without exception. The Houston Independent School
District and the Coordinators are not liable for accidents or
injuries that occur in transit to and from the training station,
or while on the job.
6.
Office Education students who fail to perform satisfactorily during a
nine-week period may be placed on probation. On second offense
they may be asked to resign. You are responsible for turning in your
evaluation sheets to your employer for each nine-week grading
period. This is an important part of your grade.
7.
Any student losing his/her training station due to the student’s fault
may be place on probation or dropped from the program depending
on the nature.
8.
Personal telephone calls on the job are discouraged. Also, personal
calls on the O.E. telephone are not allowed.
9.
Students not at work must stay in the O.E. classroom, or in a place
designated by the teacher/coordinator.
10.
Friends, classmates, and family are not to visit the students on the
job.
POLICIES AND PROCEDURES (CONT.)
11.
Students are to be on time at school, as well as on the job. Failure
to follow this rule will result in detention.
12.
Parents should understand the student’s responsibility to the
training station and should not take him/her from work for visits or
otherwise interfere with the performance of his/her duties.
13.
Students are not to order company supplies for their personal use.
This has in the past and will continue to be cause for dismissal from
the program. Misuse of company funds, materials, and revealing
company policies will not be tolerated.
14.
Students should strive to keep a positive attitude, giving an honest
day’s work for his/her wages. In order to foster a harmonious work
environment, it is imperative that the student displays a genuine
sense of loyalty and honesty to the company.
15.
All communication concerning the student or the training station
from outside sources (parents, school administrators, etc.) will be
channeled through the coordinator.
16.
Business rules for dress and personal hygiene will be observed. Mrs.
Carol Mosteit has said that all students must wear their uniforms to
work.
17.
The Business Professionals of America Organization is an
important part of student leadership training. Dues for the
2011-2012 school year are $10.00 for supplies and $90.00 for
the mandatory Employer Appreciation Banquet. This $100.00
fee is part of your registration for the Business Education
Career Prep Cooperative Program and is due on or before
October 28, 2011.
18.
Personal telephone calls on the job are discouraged. Also personal
calls on the O.E. phone are not allowed.
19.
Students not at work must stay in the O.E. Classroom, or in a place
designated by the teacher/coordinator.
POLICIES AND PROCEDURES (CONT).
20. Office Education is a full year course. Credit is based on the
successful completion of four quarters. A student receives 3 credit
hours for the entire school year.
