December 4, 2015 Reading and Writing We read the book The Napping House in order to practice retelling and sequencing skills. We are writing stories with a beginning, middle, and end. Math Optional Enrichment Activities: Read and fill in your Reading Incentive Sheet. Answer the following questions after reading: Who were the main characters in the story? What were the different settings in the story? Is this story fiction or non-fiction? How do you know? Does this story remind you of anything from your own life? Optional Enrichment Activities: Ask your child to draw a ten frame or a double ten frame and teach you how to arrange objects in it to show a specific quantity from 0-20. Write the same number using tally marks. Science We compared quantities to focus on the terms greater than and less than. We continued to work with weight and used a balance to experiment with weight. We practiced using the words heavier than and lighter than. Social Studies We discussed the features of living and nonliving things. We continued to discuss the life cycles of living things. Optional Enrichment Activities: Take a neighborhood walk and hunt for living and nonliving things. We learned about natural and human-made features. We discussed the reasons for changes in different landforms. Optional Enrichment Activities: Tally how many natural and human-made features you can find! Dates to Remember: 12/24-1/1- Winter Break
