First Grade Fun
Reading:
Reading to perform a task is our focus
in reading. We will be reading
procedural text and directions. You
can help at home by having your
child help you read a recipe or do a
fun craft project. Check out
www.enchantedlearning.com for
great craft ideas to do at home.

Math:
This month we will be working on place value with tens and ones. We
will represent numbers using blocks and use them to solve addition and
subtraction problems. You can make your own place value blocks at
home. Take popsicle sticks to represent tens and beans to represent
ones.
Social Studies
First graders will be learning about different types of cultures, for
instance school culture, community culture, and world culture. We will
be asking you to share about your family’s culture.
Conferences:
November 11th and 12th are half days for the students. Please look for
information from your child’s teacher regarding scheduling a
conference.  We can’t wait to see you!
Character:
Hooray! We are earning so many Castle Coupons. Please ask your
child how many coupons they have received and more importantly,
ask them why! Please discuss the virtues Friendliness, Orderliness,
Determination, and Cooperation.
