Glen Haven Elementary School’s Pre-K News
February 2010
Reading and Language Arts
Our plans of study are to continue with the alphabet letters. The children are expected to know at
least 30 letters by June. Also, we will continue with concepts about print: parts of a book, picking
out words, and where we start reading words. Does your child know that a period means the end of a
sentence?
Math
In math, can your child identify numbers 0-10? Can he/she count up to twenty? Can she/he write the
numbers 1-10? These skills need to be practiced at home with the parents.
Reminders
 The winter assessments were completed in January.
 You will receive a progress report on Friday, February 12, 2010. It will cover how your child is
progressing in skill development, and how he/she is socially getting along in school with other
children and teachers.
 Please read the Parent Activities suggestions in each area. These activities will help you to help
your child at home.
 We will not have formal parent conferences at this time.
 Parents, please continue teaching your child how to log-on to the computer. A paper was sent
home with your child’s log-on numbers. It will be sent home again for parents to review the
computer skills with your child. The students are reviewing naming parts of the computer: the
mouse, monitor, keyboard, and CPU.
