Kindergarten Newsletter
May 2010
What we are doing in Reading & Writing?
Our students have been extremely
successful in both their reading and writing
goals this year. We will continue to support
them through this process for the
remainder of the school year.
It is
important that you also support them at
home this summer. You would be surprised
how much students can forget when it is not
used.
What you can do at home?
Engage your child in conversations about
books. Ask your child higher level questions
about the story such as “why” and “what do
you think.”
What we are learning in Math?
We are identifying the value of and counting
coins. Students begin to understand that
quantities can be represented in a variety of
ways. We will continue with addition and
subtraction problems and fact families.
What you can do at home?
Your child can help you count change at the
grocery store. It is important to give a lot
of practice and encouragement through this
process.
What we are learning in Science
& Social Studies?
We continue to explore science and social
studies through our unit “Weather” and “My
World.”
What you can do at home?
Have your child explore the weather and our
world.
