Reading
Wow! This first marking period went
by so fast! We have learned that
fiction text is a narrative that is not
based on fact.
We get factual
information from non-fiction text.
This month, we will continue to learn
about
text
features
(Table
of
Contents, Captions, Labels, Index,
Headings, Charts, and Graphs) and
determine their importance.
Writing
Our focus this quarter is writing to
inform.
We will learn how to do
research, add details, and group facts
together.
We will work on adding
more information to our writing and
revise our work with our friends in
order to help our readers. We will
also pay attention to details, such as,
capitalization and punctuation.
DON’T FORGET!!
All our first graders want to be better
readers! Please read with them 15-20
minutes each night!
Math
Ms. Han’s, Ms. Hoover’s, and Ms.
Martin’s classes will begin to learn
about
different
types
of
measurement. In the beginning of
November, we will learn how to tell
time to the nearest half hour.
Towards the end of November, we
will measure everyday items using
standard and non-standard units.
Mrs. Encarnacion’s and Ms. Talley’s
classes will begin their unit on
Geometry. Students will learn to
identify shapes and solid figures as
well as describe their attributes.
Please continue to work on addition
and subtraction facts every day!
