Reading
Reading to Inform
Wow, the second marking period is almost
over!
The winter MCPSAP (Reading
Assessment) starts on January 11, 2010,
and will be complete by February 18, 2010.
As a whole group, we will identify before,
during, and after reading strategies to
perform a task (from recipes, craft books,
etc.). We will use a checklist to ensure we
are perform each task properly.
Writing
Writing to Inform
For the first half of the month, we will
come up with various topics we would like
to write about. Then we will organize and
create a story. Next, we will learn the 5
main parts of a letter (Date, Heading,
Body, Closing, and Signature) and begin to
write a persuasive letter. Remember to
pay attention to details, capitalization,
punctuation, and characterizing.
Math
Ms. Han’s, Ms. Hoover’s, and Ms. Martin’s
classes will take the Unit 2 assessment
during the first part of January. In Unit
3, we will continue to work with addition
and subtraction concepts, and model the
inverse operation. Students will also be
able to identify how many more, use the
counting on and back strategies, and
complete fact families.
Mrs. Encarnacion’s and Ms. Talley’s classes
will continue to work on addition and
subtraction of 2-digit numbers using
regrouping.
Have a Healthy and Happy
New Year!
