First Grade News
Reading
Writing
This month we will identify the
meaning of unfamiliar words. We will
focus on synonyms (words that have
the same meaning) and antonyms
(words that have opposite meanings).
Later in the month, we will learn to
tell the difference between fact and
opinion using informational texts.
Students will also learn how to
identify the main idea of a story.
This month students will learn how to
write a friendly letter. Students will
als compose a persuasive letter using
skills such as how to tell the
difference between a fact and an
opinion.

Math
Ms. Han’s, Ms. Hoover’s, and Ms.
Martin’s classes will identify the
characteristics of plane shapes and
solid figures.
Mrs. Encarnacion’s and Ms. Talley’s
classes will continue to identify
fractions. Later in the month, they
will begin to identify various types of
measurement.
