April 2010 GLEN HAVEN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL First Grade News Reading April begins our fourth and final quarter of instruction for 2009 - 2010. This month, students will learn how to use the text features from non-fiction texts to gather information. Students will read a variety of non-fiction texts (such as newspapers, posters, menus, and bar graphs) during the first weeks of April. Towards the end of April, their classes will identify coins and their amounts. In Mrs. Encarnacion’s and Ms. Talley’s classes, students will continue to learn about different types of measurement as well as fractions. Towards the end of April, their classes will learn about multiplication and division strategies, as well as how to identify coins.
