Common Core has come to pre-school! We have a fantastic new curriculum by Scholastic Books called
Big Day for Pre-K. Teachers were trained this summer and we are excited about all the new ideas and
resources included in the many boxes sent to us! The first month of school focuses on “My School” and
“cooperation”. The students are learning about their classrooms: the various learning centers, routines,
and expectations. We are also learning each other’s names, how to greet and say good-bye to each
other, and how we can work together to learn, clean up, and have fun. Next month we will continue to
work on classroom expectations and how to be a good friend. We will also focus on concepts of print,
counting to 5, and safety in the classroom. Hopefully, we will take a field trip to a farm to pick pumpkins
and go on a hay ride.
