Kindergarten
We are looking forward to beginning an exciting second
semester. The first half of the year went by very quickly.
We are thrilled with the progress the children are
making.
Here’s what we have planned for February:
Reading/Language Arts
 Identify the characters, setting and major events in a
story
 Retell familiar stories, including key details
 Ask and answer questions about unknown words in a
text
 Sort common objects into categories to gain a sense
of concepts the categories represent
 Write a letter or letters for most consonant and
short-vowel sounds
 Recall an experience and write to tell the event in
the order in which it occurred
 Make literature-to-self and literature-to-literature
connections
Math
 Decompose a quantity into two parts in different
ways
 Represent and describe different arrangements of 510 objects
 Count to 50
 Describe objects in the environment using names of
shapes and their attributes
 Describe the attributes of circles, rectangles,
triangles, and squares
 Build 2-dimensional shapes
 Describe and compose 2-dimensional shapes
Science
 Use senses and magnification to observe and
describe external features of Darkling beetles and
how Darkling beetles use external features for
survival
 Compare the basic needs of plants and animals
Social Studies
 Describe jobs and what is required to perform them
 Identify human resources as workers who provide
services
