Kindergarten
The first weeks of school have been very busy. We’re proud of the
kindergarten and their ability to adjust so quickly to our routine.
Here’s what we have planned for October:
Reading/Language Arts
 Understanding features of print
 Upper and lower case letters
 Identifying characters in a story
 Answering key details in a text
 Letter sound relationships
Word wall words – I, am, the, to, is, my, we, and, here, can, like
Math
 Sort and classify based on a shared characteristic
 Count and record an equivalent set
 Identify the number of objects in familiar configurations
without counting
 Relate number names, numerals, and quantities
 Count and represent quantities, including with written
numerals
 Determine the number of familiar and unfamiliar
configurations
Science
 Weather- observations, attributes, patterns; seasonal changes
Social Studies
 Classroom routines and schedules
 Importance of rules
 Rights and responsibilities at school and home
 United States symbols and practices
Thinking and Academic Success Skills - analysis and
collaboration
Your child’s kindergarten folder will come home daily. Please
check the folder and send back the empty folder the next day.
Please initial the student planner each night.
A great big thank you to all the kindergarten parents for making
our first month of school go so smoothly. Cashell kindergarteners
are the best!
