In reading, we will continue working on our concepts
of multiple meaning words, oral language, rhyming,
and vocabulary. We will learn various strategies for
retelling non-fiction texts. We will ask and answer
questions about key details and use synthesis to
determine the main topic of different texts.
Math
In math, we will focus on decomposing (breaking
up) numbers into smaller groups in more than one
way. We will then apply our knowledge of counting
to help us add and subtract from a set of objects or
figure out how many more objects are needed to
make a group of ten.
Wri.ng
In writing, we will make text-to-self connections and
begin to write opinion pieces. We will also compose
informative pieces by gathering details from various
sources about a topic of interest. While writing we
will continue to expand our knowledge of grammar,
parts of speech, sight words and punctuation.
Science
In science, we will identify, describe and compare
external features of humans and other animals. We
will classify animals by their external features and
discuss how they use those features to survive.
SocialStudies
In social studies, we will learn about goods and
services and identify situations where people make
choices among goods. We will explore the ways in
which people acquire goods, such as trading or
purchasing them in a marketplace. Students will
begin to recognize that goods have different values.
We will work on the thinking
skill of synthesis by putting
together parts to build a new
whole or an understanding of a
whole concept.
We will work on the academic
skill of persistence by
continuing in the face of
obstacles to reach a goal.
