In reading we will continue working on our concepts
of print, oral language, rhyming, antonyms and
content vocabulary. We will examine different types
of texts and retell stories using key details. We will
compare and contrast experiences and adventures
of characters in familiar stories.
Math In math we will begin to apply counting on and
counting back strategies to solve addition and
subtraction word problems. We will identify words in
story problems that indicate addition or subtraction.
We will then begin our study of the attributes of 2dimensional and 3-dimensional shapes.
We will work on the thinking
skill of synthesis by putting
together parts to build a new
whole or an understanding of a
whole concept.
We will work on the academic
skill of persistence by
continuing in the face of
obstacles to reach a goal.
Wri.ng In writing we will work through the steps of the
writing process while composing both narrative and
informational pieces. We will also continue to
expand our knowledge of grammar, parts of
speech and punctuation. Science In science we will observe and describe the life
cycle and metamorphosis of a mealworm into a
darkling beetle. We will examine and compare
external features of plants and animals. .
Social Studies In social studies we will learn how people change
the environment to satisfy their needs and wants.
Then, we will learn about communities by designing a
community model and creating maps. VIP folders should be
sent to school daily.
