We have had a wonderful time
using our imaginations while
reading Dr. Seuss books. We have
been listening for and identifying
rhymes. In class we are working on
participating and following
directions. We have been working
hard in small groups on skills such
as patterning, matching and letter
identification. During centers, we
have been exploring the site
abcya.com. There are so many
fun letter and number games for
Pre-K that you can try at home.
Literacy Tip: Play the ABC game attached to the newsletter. You can practice a few letters
each night to enhance your child’s letter and letter sound knowledge.
Dress for Success!
Please check the temperature and dress your child in layers for his/her comfort . We go outside every
day. Tennis shoes are recommended so your child can avoid accidents on the playground.
Lunch News
Behavior
During lunch we are working on
conversation skills. We have
been practicing sharing our
idea or thought and giving
others a turn to talk while we
listen. Exchanging dialog is an
important literacy process, so
make it fun at home and let
your child choose what you are
going to talk about, but hold
them to the standard of
listening as well as speaking.
As we enter the final part of the school
year, the expectation is that your child
be able to follow a one to two step
direction with little or no reminders.
Routine activities such as unpacking
and packing up should be automatic.
Listening during a story or small group
time should really not require multiple
reminders at this time of year. Help your
child at home and expect him/her to
comply to simple rules the first time they
are told. For example, if you have your
child put his/her backpack in a special
spot at home, expect that they do that
daily. Praise your child for remembering
and being responsible.
Toys At Home
An increasing number
of children are bringing
in toys from home.
These are distracting
and can be lost or
broken at school.
Please be certain that
your child keeps all
toys at home, as we
have plenty to do at
school to stay busy.
Kindergarten Orientation
Please call your child’s elementary school to set up
an appointment for his/her Kindergarten Orientation
