Head Start Newsletter December 2015 Dates to Remember Classroom News December 24th-January 1st- schools closed for winter break January 18th-Holiday, schools closed January 25th-professional day for teachers, no school for students Our class has been learning about Awesome Animals. We have discussed where animals live and shared what we know about different types of animals and what they eat. We have enjoyed many versions of The Gingerbread Man. Did you know he was eaten by a fox? Ask your child to say the gingerbread man rhyme he/she learned in school! Remember to check your child’s folder daily! Literacy Tip: Have your child identify letters in books and then tell you the sound they make. Then have your child generate their own words that begin with that sound. Dress for Success! Please check the temperature and dress your child in layers for his/her comfort . We go outside every day. Tennis shoes are recommended so your child can avoid accidents on the playground. Lunch News Behavior Family style lunch is an important part of our day in Head Start. At this time, your child has the opportunity to practice skills, such as pouring milk, independently. This is also a time where we develop language skills and use our best manners. Pleas encourage your child to do the same at home during family meal times. At Clearspring Elementary, the behavior expectations are as follows: be safe, be respectful and be responsible. In our class we are continuing to learn how to show each of these. Please remind your child at home that class rules include: using walking feet when indoors, listening to adults, and taking care of all materials in the classroom. In addition to these rules, we are also practicing kindness to others by using nice words and including friends in games and activities. Reminder from P.E. Please make sure your child is wearing tennis shoes on Fridays. This is when our class goes to P.E. and to be able to fully participate your child must be in appropriate footwear. Homework Be on the lookout in your child’s folder for homework. It will be sent home once a week on Mondays. The homework is a brief practice of skills taught in school. It is a good idea to set aside a special time on Monday evenings to complete the homework with your child. Help make your child be responsible by having him/her put the completed work back into the folder for the next day.
