Newsletter Fourth Grade HGC
It is hard to believe that it is February. This month Mr. Morogiello, our playwright
will share his love of drama with us. He will work with the children in writing and
performing plays based on their readings about immigration. The plays will be
presented on the afternoon of Thursday, February 11th. Keep an eye out for your
invitation. Our Valentine’s Day parties will be held on Friday, February 12th
beginning at 2:15. If you can volunteer to help, please contact your child’s
teacher.
Science
This month in science, we will study weather conditions and the scope of
technology used for predicting weather events.
Social Studies
Our theme for Social Studies is Immigration. We will explore immigration to the
United States through historical turning points which will lead us into in-depth
studies of the colonies; particularly St. Mary’s, Plymouth, and Jamestown.
Language Arts
Students will be reading various writings about Immigration with a culminating
activity, writing their own Immigration Plays. The immigration unit will also
consist of inquiring about their own unique family histories and using various
methods of research to learn about their own family stories.
Math
Students will be extending their understanding about fractions to represent
decimals to hundredths. They will also apply strategies for multiplying up to a 4digit number by a 1-digit number. We will start the use standard algorithm this
marking period.
