BIENVENIDA
I’d like to introduce myself and Mrs. Torres to you. We both have
been at Clearspring for over 10 years. Mrs. Torres has been with Pre K and Head Start
families for over 10 years. I have been an ESOL teacher at Clearspring for the past 10
years and for the past 15 years before that, I was teaching ESOL in Montgomery County
Public Schools.
I am married to my husband Reginald and we have 2 young adult children.
We also have 2 dogs and many birds.
Me gustaría presentarme y la señora Torres a usted. Ambos hemos estado en
Clearspring por más de 10 años. La señora Torres ha estado con Pre K y Head Start
familias por más de 10 años. He sido un maestro de ESOL en Clearspring durante los
últimos 10 años y durante los últimos 15 años antes de eso, me estaba enseñando
ESOL en Montgomery County Public Schools.

Mrs. Torres is also married and has 2 young adult children. Her daughter is
a college student at Johns Hopkins University and is studying abroad in
Spain for a semester.

We are both excited to work with your children to help them learn many things so they
can be ready for Kindergarten next Fall 2016.

Literacy News- We have been learning about school rules, how to make friends and
learning procedures to follow such as putting up your backpack, lunch
clean up and packing up their backpacks to go home. WE have been
singing songs and chants related to those topics to help develop their
vocabulary. Singing and chanting phrases helps your child develop pre
literacy skills and leads to developing reading skills. We will be focusing
more on small group instruction that involves learning the letters and
sounds, rhyming words, counting syllables in words and making
connections to text. Additionally, recognizing the letters in their names is
another literacy focus we will be working on in class.
Alfabetización News- Hemos estado aprendiendo acerca de las reglas de la escuela, cómo
hacer amigos y procedimientos de aprendizaje a seguir, como la colocación de su mochila,
almuerzo limpiar y empacar sus mochilas para ir a casa. Hemos estado cantando canciones y
cantos relacionados con estos temas para ayudar a desarrollar su vocabulario. Cantando y
coreando frases ayuda a su hijo a desarrollar habilidades de alfabetización pre y conduce al
desarrollo de las habilidades de lectura. Nos vamos a centrar más en instrucción en grupos
pequeños que implica el aprendizaje de las letras y los sonidos, palabras que riman, contando
las sílabas en las palabras y la conexión de texto. Además, el reconocimiento de las letras de
sus nombres es otro foco de alfabetización estaremos trabajando en la clase.

Math News
We have been counting when taking attendance and will continue counting objects and
dates on the calendar. We have also been learning about locations of objects using the
prepositions in, on and under. We will also start sorting by color, shape, size and
creating patterns.
Matemáticas Noticias - Hemos estado contando la hora de tomar la asistencia y seguirá
contando objetos y fechas en el calendario. También hemos estado aprendiendo acerca de las
ubicaciones de los objetos utilizando las preposiciones en, sobre y bajo. También vamos a
iniciar la clasificación por color, forma y tamaño y los patrones de la creación.
Helping at Home
In helping your child follow and remember the school rules and procedures, please
remind him/her about them in your conversations at home. They are: use quiet/inside
voices, keep hands and feet to yourself, sit on the bus while riding to be safe on the bus,
use kind words and clean up behind yourself. These same rules apply to riding the bus
and on the playground.
Please help your child by encouraging positive listening behaviors such as looking at
the speaker, using quiet voices and the importance of being still so they can hear what is
being said. Please encourage your child to speak appropriately to you and to the rest of
your family at home so that he/she can do this at school.
Please remember that this is your child’s first time in school away from you so they will
still take some time to get adjusted to using school behaviors. They might be a little
apprehensive at times about coming to school without you so please understand and
encourage them to hang in there because they will have fun learning in school like their
big brothers or sisters and will make new friends too.
Ayudar en casa
Al ayudar a su hijo a seguir y recordar las reglas y procedimientos de la escuela, por favor
recordarle / ella acerca de ellos en sus conversaciones en casa. Ellos son: utilizar voces
tranquilas / interior, mantenga las manos y los pies a ti mismo, sentarse en el autobús mientras
viajaba para estar seguro en el autobús, use palabras amables y limpiar detrás de ti mismo.
Estas mismas reglas se aplican a viajar en el autobús y en el patio.

Take home library
We will start sending a book in a large ziploc bag. Your child will return his/her book
everyday and get a new one. Please make sure to put the old book in the bag and return
it in your child's backpack. He/She will then get to choose a new one to bring home.

Vamos a empezar a enviar un libro en una bolsa ziploc grande. Su niño regresará a su / su

and how you can help your child at home. It will be held in the staff lounge.

Field Trips
Since we are new, Mrs. Moyer and I are both still planning our field trips. We will
be sending information about that soon so look for the permission slips in your
child’s folder around the beginning of October.
Excursiones

Clothing As the weather turns cooler, please make sure you label all of
your child’s clothes. Jackets and backpacks should all have your child’s
name on them.

Lunch Information
Lunch is provided to all students so you do not need to send snacks or anything
else.
