LANGUAGE ARTS
Our theme this quarter is Change and
how it occurs in cycles. We have spent
time studying the generalizations of
change and read poetry by Langston
Hughes, Emily Dickinson, and E.E.
Cummings in order to extend that study.
Students created collages displaying the
progression of time and cyclical patterns
over the four seasons. They are
beautiful! We will continue to study
ideas of change in class through our
novels and short stories. Also, students
created beautiful, intricately designed
Mandalas that represented the
universe.
In writing, we have completed our
Astronomy Magazines! This was a very
extensive project that encompasses all
three content areas. Students selected
a topic that fell under the category of
Astronomy but also occurred in a
cyclical pattern. They have published this
project and turned on March 8th.
Math Info:
In Quarter 3, students continue to focus
on Math 6 content. We recently
completed learning about Exponents and
Order of Operations. The rest of the
quarter will focus on Algebraic
expressions, equations and inequalities.
Upcoming Project UpdateEach student will be researching a
famous mathematician. After
researching their life and contributions
to mathematics, each student will write a
brief biography, create a visual and
present to the class.

Science & Social Studies
In Social Studies, the students have been
learning about the acquisition of and
expansion into western lands of the
United States. Students are learning
about five different forms of
transportation settlers used to travel
west. As our culminating activity,
students will create an advertisement
trying to convince people to use their
chosen mode of transportation to travel
west.
During Science, the students are studying
Astronomy. Currently we are looking at
the relationship between the Sun, the
Earth, and the Moon. We have also
researched and constructed
constellations. Currently, we are
comparing and contrasting Earth with
other planets in our solar system. Finally,
the students recently handed in their
final version of their Astronomy
Magazines. They look amazing, and the
students are looking forward to a gallery
walk to display their hard work!
Valentine’s Day:
Thank you to all of the parents who
donated time and/or money to make
the students’ final elementary school
party a success. Your help is much
appreciated!!
