December 2015
Dates to Remember
December 23rd – DHS Marching Band to

Book Exchange
Children are allowed to exchange their books
throughout the week. However, we have a
scheduled exchange on a particular day.
Mrs. Naismith – Tuesdays
Mrs. Stile – Fridays
Ms. Stroot – Fridays
Math
We will focus on problem solving and 1 and 2
digit adding and subtracting. Students are
expected to demonstrate fluency for addition
and subtraction within 10. We have covered
the “10’s” facts and doubles and will soon cover
doubles plus 1. It’s great to practice these at
home.
Reminders




Check and empty your child’s folder
every night!
Sign your child’s behavior sheet over the
weekend and return it on Monday.
Sign and return homework on Friday.
Guided reading books should be
returned the following day.
Reading and Writing
This month our focus will be answering and
asking questions about key details in fiction
texts, then moving into informational text.
In writing, we will continue stating opinions and
supplying reasons to support that opinion. We
will begin writing narratives and focus on using
pronouns and verbs, and adding details using
adjectives.

Winter Weather
Please send your child with appropriate
outerwear for outdoor recess every day. This
includes hats, gloves/mittens, and winter jackets.
We will go outside if the temperature is above
32 degrees.
In addition, please have your child dress in
layers for the classroom, we try to keep the
classrooms at a reasonable temperature but
the heating units can be temperamental and it
is often very chilly in the mornings until the units
get going. It is helpful if the children can add
or remove a layer to make themselves more
comfortable.

Lectura y escritura
Este mes nuestra atención se

Clima invernal
