MCPS Testing
Your child will participate in state and
county assessments yearly. Many times
we use acronyms to describe these
tests during meetings. Below you will
find specific information about types of
tests your child will take as a student in
Montgomery County Schools.
Special Education Advisory
Committee Meetings
The Special Education Advisory
Committee is comprised of parents,
MCPS staff, and representatives of
Montgomery County community groups
that advocate for children with special
needs and serve to advocate for, and
advise, the Department of Special
Education. This committee meets the
fourth Thursday of every month from
7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Meetings are held
at Carver Educational Service Center
located at 859 Hungerford Drive,
Rockville MD, 20850. The public is
welcome to attend and childcare is
available. For more information on the
Special Education Advisory Committee
or also known as SEAC, please visit the
Montgomery County Public Schools
website.
Types of IEP Meetings
You will be invited to many different
kinds of IEP meetings throughout your
child’s academic career. Each of these
meetings has a specific purpose. An
annual review meeting is held yearly to
develop IEP goals and objectives that
your child will be working on for a year.
During this meeting we will make
recommendations for placement, service
hours, as well as give updates on your
child’s present levels in all academic areas
and oral language. A periodic review will
be scheduled if changes need to be made
to service hours, placement, or to discuss
concerns relating to your child’s current
IEP goals and objectives. Parents can also
request a periodic review meeting be
scheduled at any time. A re-evaluation
planning will be held every three years or
if team has questions that require formal
assessments to answer. At a reevaluation planning meeting, service
providers will update you on your child’s
current performance. The team will
discuss if there are additional questions
that may require assessments to answer.
A re-evaluation determinations meeting
will be scheduled 90 days after
authorization for assessment is given by
parents. At a re-evaluation determination
meeting we will review the results of the
assessments that were given to your child.
Five days prior to all types of meetings,
documents that will be reviewed at the
meeting will be sent home.
