H.G.C. Applications
Information about applying to the Highly Gifted
Centers was recently mailed to all parents of Grade 3
students in MCPS. If interested, you must complete
the application and return it by deadline.
As the weather gets colder and your children break
out their new winter clothes, please make sure to put
your last name somewhere inside as they sometimes
forget them in the classroom, cafeteria, or on the
playground. This will help us get their belongings back
to them!
Curriculum News
Language Arts: Students will be learning about
narrative poems and plays and determining the central
message of literary texts. In informational text, we
continue to use text features to help us better
understand the content of a book or article. Text
features include the table of contents, index, glossary,
photos, captions, headings, and other visual aids or
print features. In Writing, we will work to make our
narrative pieces, our “true stories,” even better, and
then move on to writing an informational piece on a
topic of interest to us.
Math: Our focus continues to be on multiplication and
division facts with single digit factors or divisors.
Encourage your child to practice math facts to develop
fluency and accurate recall.
Science: Students will be observing the properties of
objects and learning about how human needs influence
technology.
Social Studies: Students will learn about geographic
characteristics of Montgomery County, the United
States, and the world.

participate in the Halloween activities, please
contact our school counselor, Ms. Nicholson. The

at 2:00 and classroom celebrations will begin
following the parade. Due to activities and limited
space, only party coordinators are invited to
