Happy New Year!
Things to Remember…As the
inside. Most days the students will be going out for
recess as long as it is not raining and it can get cold.
Also, please put your last name somewhere inside as
they sometimes forget them in the classroom,
cafeteria, or on the playground. This will help us get
their belongings back to them! Be sure your child is
dressing appropriately for the weather. The students
Ms. Coyle will be hosting a handwriting and
keyboarding club Wednesday mornings and Thursday
after school. This will help students form their
letters correctly as well as build their keyboarding
skills. Students should attend BOTH session each
week as these sessions will build on each other and
include both handwriting and keyboarding skills.

Curriculum News
Reading: In reading we will continue to ask and answer
questions by explicitly referring to the text for
answers and explain how text features clarify
information relevant to a topic when reading
informational text. The students will also continue to
determine the meaning of unknown words by using
context clues.
Writing: Students will be writing an opinion piece
about an invention they have researched in media.
Math: We will be exploring fractions. Please continue
to encourage your child to practice math facts to
develop fluency and accurate recall. This is a very
important skill that will help them as the concepts gets
more difficult. They can practice facts nightly on
Xtramath.com.
Science: Students will be observing the properties of
Ms. Powery
and Keyboarding Club
will be going outside for recess as long as it does not

We are very excited that our Round House residency
will begin Thursday January 14th and continue for 8
weeks. Each week a representative from Round House
Theater will come to our classroom to work with
students on reading strategies and finding evidence in
the text.
