Dear Parents,
Reminders. . .
We hope you had a wonderful holiday break with 
your children and family. We are approaching
the quarter 2 interim time, and the students are 
working hard to prepare for 4th grade. We are
excited about the learning that is taking place.
Here is what’s going on…
There is always homework. Check and sign
the blue Student Planner each night.
Make sure your child is returning
Wednesday Folders. We will be returning
graded work and important notices every
Wednesday.
In Reading. . .
In Math. . .
We are moving into two new genres this quarter:
poetry and plays. Students are learning the
different types of language such as similes,
metaphors, alliteration, and rhyme. As for plays,
the students are able to see the different parts of
a play and how it all comes together. Within our
guided reading groups, students will be reading a
play and be given their own part to act out.
Students continue to work on multiplication and
division with one digit numbers. They are
learning new strategies to help guide them to
finding the correct answer. With that, they are
also expanding their minds to see the
relationship between multiplication and division.
Continue working with your child at home with
memorizing his/her math facts. There are
different strategies from 0 all the way through
the number 10.
In Social Studies. . .
In Science. . .
In social studies, students are currently focusing on
our communities and defining our neighborhood
through geography and economics. Students will
continue identifying geographic characteristics
and human-made features. We are continuing to
learn about human, natural, and capital
resources and the production process.
In Science, students are able to explore
observable properties and how they can
change through the use of cooling and heating.
We are using everyday tools and methods that
are classroom friendly to demonstrate how
properties of materials can change.
In Writing. . .
Since we are focusing on poems in reading, the
students are able to take their knowledge of
poetry and create their own narrative poem.
They will be able to brainstorm ideas of different
points of their life to then pick one of those topics
to develop a poem using rhyme, similes, and
stanzas.
