Second Grade November Newsletter Dear 2nd Grade Families, Thank you to families who helped out with the Fall Harvest Party. Students really enjoyed the event. The year is moving along and we are in the second marking period. Reading: Students will be learning more about informational text and using text features to help them understand texts. We will end the month by exploring the characteristics of folktales. Please have your child read at least 30 minutes each night. Reading to your child counts, too. Math: In the month of November, students will be spending time learning about 2-digit addition and subtraction. Instruction will focus on using strategies and tools like number lines, 100’s charts and pictorial models to solve addition and subtraction problems with and without decomposing. Students will also be learning how to use mental strategies to help solve addition and subtraction problems from 1-20. Science: We are starting our new unit on Physical Sciences. Students will be classifying objects and sorting objects in various ways. Social Studies: In the upcoming lessons students will be learning about the different geographical features of the world.
