Second Grade March 2016 Newsletter Dear 2nd Grade Parents, March will be another exciting month, full on experiments and hands-on activities. We are planning for a field trip in the future and more information will be coming home soon. Reading: Students are learning about poetic elements and types of poetry. We will also be studying literature, focusing on point of view and story structure. Please make sure your child is reading for at least 20 minutes every night. Math: Our math focus this month is telling time to the nearest 5 minutes. Please encourage your child to practice telling time at home. Science: We have begun our plant experiments and will be monitoring the progress of the plant growth throughout the month. We will also continue studying and observing moon properties. Social Studies: Students are studying economics including goods, and services, human, capital and natural resources. You can help make real-life connections for your child by asking where products come from and the importance of saving money. Writing: Student Planner and Homework Expectations: This month we will continue writing opinion pieces and using Please check your child’s color of the day. facts to support their reasons. Towards the end of the Super soaring- Blue month, students will begin writing their opinion based on Awesome- Purple the research they have been acquiring in social studies. Terrific- Green Yellow- Slow down, turn it around! Red- I’m not doing the right thing! Please sign the student planner every night. After reading please log the minutes. Homework- Please contact your child’s teacher for questions/concerns.
