Second Grade April Newsletter Dear 2nd Grade Parents, We hope students enjoyed their spring break. Can you believe that the fourth marking period has already started? We are about to start many exciting topics in the month of April. Reading: Students are learning about poetic elements and types of poetry in the first few weeks of April. We will also be studying literature, asking questions to understand key details of a text. Please make sure your child is reading for at least 20 minutes every night. Math: Our math focus this month is to fluently add and subtract within 1000. Students will able be able to use strategies such as decomposing, composing, using friendly numbers, and drawing a number line to solve the problems. Please practice basic math facts with your child each night. Science: We will begin our brine shrimp experiment. Students will be able to learn about the life cycle of the brine shrimp. We will also continue studying and observing moon properties. Social Studies: Students are studying civics in the month of April. Students will be able to explain and understand roles of local government and school leaders.
