September Newsletter
Dear Parents/ Guardians,
Welcome to a new school year! We are all very excited to have met your
children, and look forward to a very productive year. Please keep this newsletter
handy so you may refer to it as needed. Below are the objectives that students
will be learning during the month of September and some ways you can help
your child reinforce learning at home.
Reading: We will begin by establishing independent and small group reading
routines and discussing strategies to develop better fluency and comprehension,
especially in historical fiction, as well as informational texts. At home, read with
your child and ask your child to identify literary elements, like: problem/solution,
theme, characters, and setting.
Writing: Students will build their writing skills every day, focusing on writing
opinions on literature and on researching a time in history to create their very
own historical fiction narratives. We will draft, edit, and revise our writing.
Students are also preparing for spelling instruction to begin. At home, encourage
your child to keep a writer’s journal, writing about whatever interests him/her.
Math: Students will recognize place value patterns and apply them to assist in
solving multi-digit problems. At home, practice basic addition, subtraction,
multiplication, and division facts (through 9).
Science: We will construct, observe, discuss, and read about land and water
ecosystems. Students will also explore the concepts of living things and their
basic needs. At home, notice and discuss elements of nature with your child.
Social Studies: We will begin with the study of geography, learning basic map
skills and analyzing how geography shapes settlement patterns. At home, explore
and discuss maps with your child.

Estimados Padres / Tutores,
Bienvenidos a un nuevo año escolar! Todos estamos muy contentos de haber
conocido a sus hijos, y esperamos un año muy productivo. Por favor, mantenga este
boletín a mano para que pueda consultarlo cuando sea necesario. A continuación se
presentan los objetivos que los estudiantes van a aprender durante el mes de
septiembre y algunas maneras que usted puede ayudar a su hijo refuerzan el
aprendizaje en casa.
Reading: Vamos a comenzar por establecer rutinas independientes y pequeños
grupos de lectura y discusión de estrategias para desarrollar una mejor fluidez y
comprensión, especialmente de ficción histórica, así como textos informativos. En
casa, leer con su hijo y pídale a su hijo que identifique los elementos literarios, como:
problema / solución, el tema, los personajes y el escenario.
Escritura: Los estudiantes desarrollarán sus habilidades de escritura todos los días,
se centra en la escritura de opiniones sobre la literatura y en la investigación de una
vez en la historia para crear sus propios relatos de ficción histórica. Vamos a
redactar, editar y revisar nuestra escritura. Los estudiantes también se están
preparando para deletrear instrucciones para comenzar. En casa, anime a su hijo a

naturaleza con su hijo.
Estudios Sociales: Vamos a comenzar con el estudio de la geografía, el aprendizaje
de las habilidades básicas del mapa y el análisis de cómo los patrones de
