Thank you to our families for the donations of supplies! Our classrooms are now
stocked with all the things our students will need. We really appreciate your help!
School hours are from 8:50-3:25 PM. Please help your child be on time and here for
the entire school day.
Be sure to check your child’s take-home folder each night for finished work and
communication from the teacher.
Homework will begin soon! We will provide information at our Back to School Night,
Tuesday, September 8th from 6:30-8:00.

Curriculum Highlights This Month!
Math: Mathematicians will be counting, reading and writing numbers to 120.
We will be working on place value by identifying the tens and ones in double
digit numbers. We will be comparing numbers and solving addition and
subtraction story problems.
Reading: We will be enjoying reading and listening to fictional stories and
identifying the key details, such as the characters, setting, problem and
solution. In our small, guided reading groups we will build word recognition, use
good before, during and after reading strategies, and talk about the stories
we read.
Writing: First graders will establish the routines of our Writer’s Workshop.
We will write personal narratives and publish our stories.
Science: Scientists will be learning about how animals use their different body
parts to fulfill the need for food.
Social Studies: We will learn about the responsibilities of good classroom
citizens. We will study symbols of the United States and learn more about
important historical figures such as George Washington and Martin Luther
King, Jr.
