Details on Upcoming Events
The first grade Valentine’s parties will be held on Friday, February 12th
at 2:30 pm. Families are welcome to attend! Students love to read the
valentines from their classmates! If your child brings valentines, please
be sure to make one for every student in the class. Teachers will be
sending home the class lists this week.

Report Card Distribution

Curriculum Highlights This Month!
Math: First graders will be measuring with non-standard units, like
cubes and paper clips. Students will be learning measurement
vocabulary words.
Reading: Readers will be reading informational text. They will be
identifying the text features, such as table of contents and index, and
explaining how they help the reader.
Writing: Young authors will participate in the Young Geographers
Project! They will choose a photograph of a place and write to inform.
Science: Students are going to be exploring rocks, sand and soil. They
will be comparing natural features to human-made features.
Social Studies: We will be studying geography as we learn about our
city, state, country, continent and planet. We will continue to explore
the maps and globes.
