Reminders
Continue to read with your child at home! The year-end benchmark for
first grade is a level 16 text and we are hopeful that all students will
accomplish this goal Students should be reading for at least 20
minutes each night. After, ask your child to retell the story in his own
words!

Math: Mathematicians will understand the relationship between
addition and subtraction as we solve fact families. We will also begin
to add one and two-digit numbers together.
Reading: Readers will be enjoying literature this month. We will read

that help illustrate the importance of saving the earth. We will review
story elements.
Writing: Young authors will be writing their own opinions. These will
include topic sentences, good reasons and a concluding sentence.
Science: We will be studying environmentalism and learning about ways
we can help care for our earth.
Social Studies: Students will continue their work with the Young
