Curriculum Highlights This Month!
Math: Mathematicians will continue to add and subtract two digit
numbers using place value strategies. We will compose a new ten when
we need to. We will also work on word problems to strengthen our
problem solving skills.
Reading: We will begin this month by listening to poetry and analyzing
word meanings. Then we’ll switch to informational text as we identify
text features and learn important facts.
Writing: First graders will become poets as we learn more about using
alliteration, feeling words, similes and a rhythm.
Science: Scientists will be learning about helping the earth by reducing,
reusing and recycling.
Social Studies: Students will be learning about goods and services as
well as capital, human and natural resources. We will begin our
Classroom Community project! (You will be receiving a letter with
specific details about the building project your child will do at home.)
