LES PTA Board Minutes
December 16, 2011
The LES PTA Board meeting was called to order by Kim Braun at 9:44 a.m. The meeting
was held in the conference room at Laytonsville Elementary School.
Attendance
Kim Braun, Kathleen Songer, Liz McClure, Patti Twemlow, Shannon Hockey, Cathleen
Marose, and Kari Primozic were in attendance. The meeting was open to the public
Approval of Minutes
The November 18, 2011 minutes were approved.
Old Business:
Holiday Shop: The Holiday Shop was a success. It was reported that there were
problems with the initial setup because the PTA event form was not used and there was
a problem with the piano not being easily accessible for lessons and the winter concert.
It was a good example of why the event form is important to use every time. There
were a few new processes implemented in the shop this year. The children’s money
was only given to them at the time that they came to the shop eliminating them having
money in the classrooms and hallways. The children’s purchased items and shopping
bags were delivered to their rooms eliminating having the kids walking the halls during
recess. The kids were dismissed from lunch by the staff in small numbers eliminating
some of the crowding in the shop. It was noted that the new volunteer process once
again worked well. A suggestion was made to change how the products are displayed
on the tables to better help the kids find items in their price ranges.
Science and Technology Fair: Patti Twemlow reported that the Mad Science assembly
went well and good feedback was received. At the time of the meeting it was reported
that they had 45 projects and 57 participants registered which is very high. The t-shirt
design was presented and approved. The changes to the science fair previously
reported will not be happening due to several conflicts and the science fair will proceed
in the same manner as past years. There will be a scavenger hunt provided for children
attending the fair, the reward will be button pins.
Fundraiser Survey: The annual fundraiser survey has been moved to January due to
delivery issues in December.
Miscellaneous: The old snacks and sodas that were held in the PTA closet between
events have been cleaned out and donated where possible. The procedure going
forward will be to not save these items between events due to spoilage issues.

New Business:
International Night: A motion was made and seconded to increase the budget for
International Night to $1200 in order to hire new and/or different performers. The
motion was approved.
Chairperson Information Packets: Kathleen Songer and Kim Braun to set up a project
plan and some meeting dates for getting Chairperson Information Packets set up for
future PTA Chairpeople. The goal is to eliminate some of the unknowns and to be able
to pass information along after people have left the school.
Fundraising for 2012: Postponed discussion until survey results have been received and
analyzed.
GHS After Prom Event: It was motioned and seconded to donate the same amount as
last year to the GHS After Prom Event. The motion was approved.
Volunteer Hours: It was discussed how the volunteer hour tracking is not followed
closely and reminders should be sent so that the school and community are aware of
how much volunteering is actually happening.
Treasurers Report: The treasurers report was distributed .
Principals Report: The principal was not available to report this month.
The meeting adjourned at 11:10 am.
