 Voice Comments in Office 10 Using OneNote Voice comments, also known as Voice notes, allow students and teachers to record their voice in a document. Benefits include: • Removes the writing barrier for struggling students • Reduced need for typing • Engaging for many students • Provides some student the ability to produce a product of greater quantity How to make a Voice Comment in Office 10 First ‐ How to find and use OneNote Office 10 comes with a new product called OneNote and we can use this alone or in combination with word to create a voice note. Office 10 including OneNote is available on all MCPS computers. 1. Before recording your voice in OneNote you should think about how to connect the voice note to text that will identify the content. You can simply open OneNote, record and then identify the content or first select existing text from another desired source e.g. Word and paste it into OneNote. 2. 5. If you have selected text from a different source, paste your text into the new page in OneNote. 6. Title the page in the top window, the name of the page will appear in the right navigation bar. 7. You can create a “homework” section in the left navigation bar by right clicking in the bar and selecting “add new section” (the selection with a picture of one folder), name your folder homework. 8. 3. OneNote Opens in this window. The left navigation bar lists folders, the right navigation bar lists files within the open folder. 4. Next Select “New Page” on the top of the right navigation bar. 9. Place the cursor in the document where you want the voice note to occur. 10. Click on the “insert” tab. 11. 12. When you are done recording you must select the recording tab under “Audio and Video” and select “stop.” 13. Your Voice comment will appear in the position you placed your cursor. 14. To hear your voice right click on the WVA icon and select play or select playback and the green play arrow. 15. If you have not used text before creating your voice comment you should write some text next to the file to identify the content. 16. To save your file with the included voice comments select file → save as. 17. Be sure under the “save current” the “page” option is highlighted or your whole folder may be saved. 18. Be sure to save the file as a “OneNote 2010 Section” which will retain the OneNote formatting. 18. Consider the location you wish to place your file. If the student needs to hand in this work as an assignment the teachers “hand‐in” folder is an option. Tip: If your sound does not work in windows 7 schools you make need to “power boost” your microphone – to do so go to Windows accessories →select Volume Control → system sounds →Level tab and drag the microphone boost up →click on the picture of the microphone → then properties → OK.
