Text to Speech: Reading PDF Files Kurzweil 3000™ v. 13 To determine which version of Kurzweil is in your building, answer these questions. Click on the links below. : What TM Year is your school? What version of Kurzweil is in yourschool? Kurzweil v. 13 allows teachers and students to open a PDF file directly. Kurzweil v.13 works from all computers. Freedom and choice! Previous versions of Kurzweil (v.12) required teachers to use a designated computer with “Professional” installed. Students will be able to immediately use the accessibility features in Kurzweil such as text to speech, highlighting, dictionary support and more to support their learning. Kurzweil users have two options: 1. Opening a PDF file directly in Kurzweil 3000 a. Launch Kurzweil 13 from the “Application” folder on MCPS computers. b. On the “Main Tool Bar”, select “Open” to navigate to a saved pdf file. c. After opening the file, The “Recognition Page Range” will prompt you to select the page range you would like to use, and then click “OK”. Be patient, the computer will take a moment to recognize the document. d. Saving your document? From the “Main Tool Bar”, select “Save”. The default setting is to save in KES file format. Navigate to and open your .PDF file (use this process to open any supported file format) b. From the “Main Tool Bar”, click on “File”, and select “PRINT”. c. Select “KESI Virtual Printer” from the “Print Name” list. d. Click “Print”. e. Your file will automatically open in Kurzweil. f. The KESI Virtual Printer is a print driver. Instead of printing a file, it creates a Kurzweil 3000 image file, or a "virtual" print, directly from other applications.
