Downloading Books from Accessible Book Collection

Accessible Book Collection – Downloading Books
Any staff member may download a book for an eligible student. Eligible students must
have “print disabilities.” See the Overview quick guide for more information about
when to use the Accessible Book Collection.
To download a book on an MCPS computer:
1. Log into your school account by going to www.accessiblebookcollection.org and clicking on
2. Choose how you want to view the book list
3. Find a book you’d like to download and click the download link
4. Save the file to the Copyrighted Text folder (in Student Shared on your school network)
5. When the download is complete, click “Open Folder” to locate the downloaded file. If you do not
see this option, then simply open the Copyrighted Text folder to see the downloaded file.

6. Double click on the download file to run the self-extractor and click OK through the prompts.
7. When the self-extractor is complete, you will see a folder containing the files that make up the
book. Open that folder.
8. Several files for each book will found within the folder. For the preformatted version of the ebook double-click on the file that looks something like "MyBook.html."
9. The book will open in Internet Explorer. To have the book read aloud, you will need to use text
reader software such as Kurzweil, Natural Reader, or WordQ.

Important note:
Any book downloaded for a student:
 Must be approved for use in MCPS
 Must not be stored on a public folder on the school network
 May be stored in the Copyrighted Text folder in Student Shared on the school network
 May be stored in the eligible student's personal My Documents folder
