On the Community College Survey of Student Engagement (CCSSE) administered at
Modesto Junior College in spring 2006, many of the item responses for students in the
learning community cohort reflect higher levels of engagement (approximately .25
above the mean) than the general MJC students.
1. Active and Collaborative Learning
The mean for the LC cohort is higher than for the general MJC students in the following areas:

Asked questions in class or contributed to class discussions

Worked with other students on projects during class
