The students of the liberal arts and human ecology divisions, the first- semester early admitted and female students and top group students in academic marks recei ved academic advisings more actively. The students of regular admittence needed advisings for major and career guida nce more, but the need of major and career guidance for the second- semester admi tted students whose majors were decided was relatively low. For the low group students in academic marks, the advisings of major and career guidance were needed more. For the students of the leave of absence or expelled status, there were more need s for the advsings of campus life. 12 conclusion s The 17th International Conference on the First-Year Academic advising for first-year students needs to focus on guiding them to explore their major and career, helping them adjust to campus life and supporting them financially. Academic advising for first-year students should be specified according to their characteristics to improve their satisfaction of academic advising and their college life success. Future studies need to investigate first-year students’ perceptions and needs for academic advising by interviewing and questioning them more comprehensively. 13
